What is light

Light is a form of energy that produces a sensation in our eye. Which makes objects visible. We can able to see anything after the reflection of light from that objects.

Light always travels in a straight line.

The speed of light depends on the density of the medium from which its pass. If the density of the medium is less than the speed of light is maximum and if the density of the medium is more than the speed of light is minimum.

The speed of light is inversely proportional to the density of the medium.

The speed of light is maximum in the vacuum which nearly 3,00,000 km/s.

The speed of light is less in the air in comparison to vacuum. But approximately the same.

The speed of light is less in water than in air because water has a maximum density than air and vacuum.

Law of light

  • The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.
  • The incident ray, reflected ray and Normal are lies on the same plane.

There are many phenomena based on light like reflection, refraction, etc.

What is Reflection 

The bouncing back of light after striking on the surface in the same medium is called Reflection

What is Refraction :

The bending of light when the light goes from one medium to another medium like “air to water”, “glass to air or vice versa”. Is known as Refraction.

What is Dispersion :

The splitting of white light in its component colour is VIBGYOR. Is known as Dispersion.

When light enters into the prism then white light split in its component colours from those which are made up of.

And when component colour enters in the prism the gives white colour.

Rainbow is based on the phenomena of light that is dispersion.

In a rainbow, Rain droplets act like small prisms. Rainbow is always formed opposite side of the Sun.

The bending of light that passes through a prism depends on the wavelength of light. 

When light passes through a prism then its component color light bends on different angles. which depend on the wavelength of light. Small wavelength light bends more whereas large wavelength light bend or divert less. Wavelength increases – VIBGYOR (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red ) Respectively.
